Most people can't say Australia without thinking of The Great Barrier Reef.
It's known to be one of the best snorkeling spots in the world, and since it was my first time snorkeling ever, my expectations were high - no pressure future snorkeling spots. 😉
My friends and I lived in Sydney at the time and visited Cairns for a few days to see the reef and The Daintree Rainforest. We booked a snorkeling trip with Down Under Cruise & Dive, which took us on an all-day cruise of the reefs with snorkeling at two different locations included. You also had the opportunity to go diving, but since I was new in the water I kept to snorkeling.
The sail to the reefs was filled with big waves and I was seasick from the moment we stepped on the boat. But as soon as we got to jump in the water, I forgot about my seasickness and I was amazed by the beautiful reefs. The colors of the reefs and the cool fish were unlike anything I've ever seen before.
My snorkeling technique wasn't perfect, and at one point while I was trying to get a hang of it, I looked down and a little shark was swimming right under my feet. This freaked me out so much that I swallowed a ton of water. 🙂
Eventually, I got the hang of it and could enjoy the experience to the fullest. I could have spent all day snorkeling at The Great Barrier Reef and I would love to go back one day if I get the possibility.
This is an experience no one should miss out on if visiting Australia.
